IT worker at law firm in center of Panama Papers scandal arrested

An employee of the offshore law firm at the middle of the Panama Papers scandal has been arrested in Geneva, according to multiple reports.

But is was unclear whether the IT worker at the law firm, Mossack Foneca, was the individual who approached the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung with data from the firm's internal files.

Süddeutsche Zeitung doesn't believe the unnamed person arrested was the newspaper's source, according to the Guardian.

Mossack Fonseca accused its employee of stealing information and breach of trust, a lawyer for the firm told the Swiss newspaper Le Temps.

The leak to journalists prompted the prime minister of Iceland to resign in April and turned the spotlight on the use of tax havens by financial and political heavyweights.
