Mila Kunis was passed over in the Best Supporting Actress category although she had been praised for her performance as a co-star in "Black Swan." She did earn a Golden Globe nomination - but not a win - for her role in the Darren Aronofsky-directed flick.
Barbara Hershey also received acclaim for her take on the controlling, maniac mother in "Black Swan" but failed to receive a nomination. However, the ballet thriller did take home five nominations, including ones for best picture, director Darren Aronofsky and star Natalie Portman.
"Blue Valentine" star Ryan Gosling is also missing from the major acting categories. Gosling, who earned a Golden Globe nod for his role in the Derek Cianfrance-directed film, most likely lost the "fifth spot" on the Best Actor list to Javier Bardem for "Biutiful." However, his co-star Michelle Williams was recognized in the Best Actress group for her performance.
Mark Wahlberg saw three of his co-stars receive nominations for their roles in "The Fighter" while he earned zero. The film, a drama about boxer "Irish" Micky Ward and his family, earned seven nominations in total, including Best Picture, two Supporting Actress nominations (Melissa Leo and Amy Adams), a directing nomination for David O. Russell and a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Christian Bale.
The Ben Affleck-directed Boston crime flick "The Town" saw no love in the Best Picture or Best Director categories. Jeremy Renner, right, took home a Best Supporting Actor nod, the only nomination for the film.
Sentimental favorite Michael Douglas came up empty, too. Douglas, who has been battling throat cancer and got a standing ovation at the Golden Globes ceremony, did not receive a nomination for his role in "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps."
Bill Murray and Robert Duvall generated Oscar buzz early this year for their film, "Get Low."
Duvall even earned a Golden Globe nomination (but no win) for his take as an eccentric old man who wants to throw his own funeral party. But the Aaron Schneider-directed flick failed to receive any Academy Award nominations.
